Region 11: Burrard Inlet - Brian Smith

Brian Smith

Brian graduated from the Fish and Wildlife Technology program at Sault College of Applied Arts and Technology in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario in 1989. Brian moved to B.C. in 1990 and has worked on behalf of the fisheries resource ever since. Brian currently is the manager of the Seymour Fish Hatchery and has worked with the Seymour Salmonid Society for over 11 years.

Brian volunteers much of his time with the following groups:

  • British Columbia Wildlife Federation (BCWF): Director on the Inland Fisheries Committee.
  • South Coast Steelhead Coalition (SCSC), (executive director): This group was founded to provide WLAP with a means for communication/cooperation and support from community and volunteer organizations that would like to help WLAP rebuild steelhead populations in the Georgia Basin.
  • Stewards of the Lower Fraser (founding member): This group was founded to report issues pertaining to fisheries management raised by community and volunteer stewardship organizations to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO).
  • Stream Keepers: Provides technical support through the Seymour Hatchery.
