Many groups and individuals have read and commented on this new policy.
The federal government has released their draft national plan on Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing Activities. They are accepting comments, to the address below, until February 25th.
Questions about the success of hatchery fish and their contribution to wild and
native Pacific salmon and steelhead (Oncorhynchus ssp.) populations have gar-nered
substantial controversy during the last century.
Here is a report that attempts of shed some light on the debate.
Below is the link for WLAP draft steelhead policy (called steelhead stream classification on their website). They are looking for comment by September 2004, so I would encourage you to have a look if you are interested.

PFRCC new report - Does Over - Escapement Cause Salmon Stock Collapse?
PFRCC - from "Making Sense of Hatchery Impacts" Met with PFRCC members, asked to send in instances of where hatchery stock has been used successfully to re-establish runs. Gathered examples and have forwarded to Hon John Fraser

SPR - Still opportunity to comment. Public consultations, no dates as yet. Additional information as to newest communities adopting original SPR at www.bcssp.ca. Bruce Morgan has agreed to attend a SEHAB meeting to begin process of engaging community.
Enforcement, habitat complaints, as staff levels have dropped with Federal and Provincial staff, people are starting to go by their job descriptions, much of the works, was someone else's job that all habitat type staff assisted in, as part of their scope of works. Cathedral Grove site typical of many highways jobs. BMP's followed? Passed around comments / photo's from Vancouver Island as to policy change, DFO no longer looking into habitat complaints on trout streams.
Fish passage - has come to our attention that DFO / Municipalities putting fish obstruction pipes into systems where Streamkeepers have been working with them to get pipes out lower in the system to get fish back into their habitat.
